Skyz The Limit: My Top Five Tunes of The Week (September 4th)

Ou Est Le Swimming Pool – Dance The Way I feel
Comment: A major cross-continent dual is now brewing between two colossal new bands. This time it’s an electronic beat-bopping duet from the UK versus MGMT. This new record could be their definitive answer to MGMT’s Kids. If you haven’t heard this massive new single yet, you’ll never know what pulverized your car stereo system. Grade: A

Dizzee Rascal – Holiday (Laidback Luke Mix)
.
Comment: No one generates more audio buzz in Great Britain than the hip-hop sensation Mr. Dizzee Rascal. The Netherlands Electro phenom Laidback Luke reworks his sweet Chromeo collaboration into a dynamic club-floor filler by building the chorus around an explosion of acid baselines and wicked breaks. This tune could have appeal to both alternative and electronic dance fans. Grade: A

Florence and The Machine – Howling
.
Comment: This sexy UK diva croons about a woman who has unequivocally unleashed the inner “beast within her,” while under the spell of another man. The subtle yet elegant orchestration of keyboard electronica takes a backseat to Florence Welch’s quintessentially dynamic vocal. This has been year a year for female pop-chart toppers. This new single should lead the pack of shewolves! Grade: A-

Frankmusik – Every Breath You Take (Police Cover)
.
Comment: When this Irish electro mixer is not reworking the likes of Mika and The Pet Shop Boys, he is recording covers of today’s hits and 80s classics. This time he is showcasing his vocal talent gift and a knack for minimalist techno beats in this avant-garde rework of one of pop’s classic romantic anthems.
Grade: B

Miike Snow – A Horse Is Not A Home
Comment: This Stockholm-based band is led by the emerging Indie recording star singer/songwriter Andrew Wyatt. This fascinating single could best be described as a unique combination of David Bowie meets Arcade Fire. This is one Euro-import that Indie/rock enthusiasts should be clamoring over this Fall.
Grade:A+
