Skyz The Limit: My Top Five Tunes of The Week (August 1)

Passion Pit – To Kingdom Come (Grum Remix)
Comment: The British techno outfit drops this colossal techno remix of the Bostonian’s new pop single that features a slew of mind blowing synths, retro-style drum loops and gorgeous vocorder sound effects. A must-have tune for any deejay’s setlist! Grade: A+

Discovery – I Want You Back.
Comment: The new electronic band from the Big Apple mixes reggae dub and electro-house grooves in this slick cover of the Jackson 5’s hit single. The Vampire Weekend side-project unveils a future summer smash hit in this novel rework of an R&B classic. Grade: A

Coldplay – Bloodless Revolution (B-Side).

Comment: In this heartbreaking piano ballad, Chris Martin vocalizes his concerns for senseless violence and government-led invasions to spread global democracy. This leaked Viva La Vida outtake showcases Martin’s brilliant work as a pianist and has fans yearning for a full-scale, studio mixed version of the song. Could this track earn a 2010 release? Let the rumors begin! Grade: B+

Undertow – The Stars.
Comment: This Montreal-based band releases an emotional ballad, featuring a seductive yet haunting vocal, luscious strings and a groovy trip-hop backbeat that will have listeners clamoring to hear more from this Canadian import. Grade: A

Stick & Stones – Jamie T.
Comment: This new mega-Brit rock smashing tune is a bold mix of vintage Pete Doherty and The Street’s Mike Skinner. This new single should be a definitive wake-up call for those critics who denounce bands who mix rock n’ roll with old -school style sequences. It’s time to give a serious listen to this new “Rock n’ Rolla.” Grade: A+
